Figured Maple Board With Walnut Saucer

Made from a curly maple board that was originally slated for guitar making, a crack in the wood caused it to be unsuitable for the music industry. The board was split at the crack and then hand-planned to create a rough edge that emphasizes the figure in the wood.

At the tapered end of the board sits a hand-turned black walnut bowl in a carved-out cavity. The contrast of the natural colors of maple and walnut creates a harmony from our local domestic woods.

The piece is finished in an all-natural food safe finish and can be used as a serving board for charcuterie, sushi, or even a cutting board with a cavity to hold waste or finished cuts.
